Charles Roy Dubuc
Charles Roy Dubuc is a 25-year-old young composer from Estrie, strongly influenced by his experience as a multi-instrumentalist. Indeed, until the end of his college studies in classical piano at Cégep de Sherbrooke, he also practiced classical singing, tuba, and percussion on a daily basis, in addition to learning the basics of composition.
Moreover, this versatility allowed him to perform as a tubist with the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, a marching band based in the United States, at the Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, an NFL team.
Having continued his musical studies at the University of Sherbrooke, he had the opportunity to perfect his knowledge in orchestration and composition with Benoit Groulx, Maxime Goulet, Robert-Marcel Lepage, and Catherine Major. He also had the chance to record compositions with musicians from the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Marc David and maestro Stéphane Laforest.
Since completing his bachelor’s degree in music composition for the screen in 2022, he has diversified his activities by starting to teach piano, occasionally working as a research assistant in musicology, and beginning to practice the organ.
Finally, in 2023, he had the privilege of collaborating with the Orchestre de la Francophonie in the creation of his work entitled Deux petits poèmes symphoniques. Inspired by Maurice Ravel, Philip Glass, and Arvo Pärt, Charles composes in an introspective style and primarily seeks to evoke feelings of movement and stillness in his listeners.
